The Lightning Thief Project

THESE PROJECTS WILL BE DUE ON Tuesday, April 29th!

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Novel Projects

Directions:  Choose one of the following projects to complete for class.

  1. Create a movie poster for the novel.  Choose famous actors and actresses to fill the roles of the main characters and pick a scene to serve as your background.  Make your poster as realistic as possible. You may do this by hand, on Microsoft publisher, or a combination of both. Accompany poster with a description of the movie. ***DO NOT USE THE ACTUAL MOTION PICTURE POSTER***
    *1-2 people*

  1. Use “Greek God you” or the demi-god you created in computer class and write a detailed, two-page story about their “adventure” to camp or “quest” they are sent on from Camp Half-Blood. Remember to use examples from Greek myths.  *1 person*

  1. Create a detailed map of the settings in the novel: Camp Half Blood, the Underworld and Mount Olympus.  For Camp Half Blood include all cabins, activity areas, landmarks, etc.  For both the Underworld and Mount Olympus, refer to the author’s description of the places in the book to make it realistic. Include all elements of an actual map:  scale bar, legend, key, labels, etc.
    *2 people*

  1. Create a diorama of one of Camp Half-Blood’s cabins.  Use descriptions from the novel and knowledge of Greek mythology to create the perfect cabin for these gods and goddesses. Accompany diorama with a description of Camp Half Blood and the particular cabin you chose.
    *2 people*

  1. Create an itinerary for Percy’s quest to the Underworld (Los Angeles), that mortals would take.  Then present your information on a tri-fold poster board.  Things to include:  map of U.S. (from NYC to LA), routes to take across country, ticket prices for buses, trains, etc; hotels or casinos to stay in; sights to see (St. Louis, MO; Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA), departure and arrival times, etc.
    *1-2 people*

  1. Create a yearbook of Camp Half-Blood campers and staff members met in the novel.  Include pictures, names, Olympian parents, descriptions of all the campers/staff encountered.  If you have read other books in the series, include important characters from other books.  Refer to MC School’s yearbook for ideas of pages to include (letter from the director, activity pages, graduation quotes, etc).
    *1-2 people*

  1. Create a newspaper article for the Mt. Olympus Observer, the official newspaper for Mount Olympus.  Your article should be about Percy’s adventure to save the master bolt, and an interview and biography of Percy Jackson.  Realistic newspaper articles need to include title, headings, subheadings, author’s name, image, etc.
    *1-2 people*

  1. Write 8-10 diary entries narrated by either Grover or Annabeth. Explain how you feel about Percy and the quest. Include simple, hand drawn sketches to go along with your entries. You may use a journal you already have, or attach papers in a way to look like a journal. Decorate front cover (Grover’s Journal, Annabeth’s Diary).
    *1-2 people*

  1. Create a Prezi presentation based on 15 Greek gods.  Include information about what they are the god/goddess of; family, spouse, symbols, and include images.  Gods and Goddesses to include:
