Literary Fair Poem: Due Friday!

The Power of Words: Poetry
1.   Write an example of a word or phrase that is special to you.
ex: “Love is all you need.”

2.   Write 2-5 sentences describing that word/ phrase.
ex: Love can give a person strength or can cause a person to display weakness at a time when they would normally be strong. If I’m having a bad day, I can simply remember the love I have in my home and that reminds me that’s all that really matters. Sometimes, people make sacrifices for the ones that they love. It might not always seem like the best thing at the time, but compromise is a form of love.

3.   Write 10 - 20 association words/ phrases.

a.  Beautiful
b.  Happiness
c.  Warmth
d.  Smile
e.  Compromise
f.      Deep
g.  Connection
h.   A single soul in two bodies
i.       Need
j.       Affection
k.    Completion
l.       Family
m.   Love until it hurts
n.   Smile is the beginning of love
o.  Love is a battle, love is a war

4.   Write 3-4 examples of figurative language with your word/ phrase:
a.  As the sun streams in past the cozy curtains, I smell their delectable scent as they both roll onto me at once.
b.  I hear their contagious laughs, like hyenas eagerly awaiting their dinner.
c.  I watch them ignore me as their whole world is each-other. Such beautiful love I’ve created.
d.  I close my eyes and listen to each giggle and smooch as I slowly wake up in my home built on bricks of love.

5.   Use your word associations and figurative language and turn it into poetry. There are no rules; it doesn't have to rhyme or be too long or short. Just play with the words and figurative language and have fun!

GOOD LUCK AND BE CREATIVE! DUE FRIDAY!
