6th grade midterm study reminders

Vocabulary:
Don't just memorize definitions, apply your vocab skills by using the words in sentences. Study all words, but focus on the following 20:

Review main characters, theme (imagination and friendship), tone, setting and plot (all parts of plot: introduction, problem, climax, solution, conclusion).

The Van Gogh Cafe:
Review main characters, theme (imagination and magic), tone, setting and plot for the first 3 chapters (up to Magic Muffins).

Grammar:
Parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs)
Capitalization
Punctuation
Past tense verbs
Editing skills/ edit marks

Figurative Language:
Practice by identifying and writing your own examples of: imagery, simile, metaphor, repetition, rhyme, alliteration, personification, idiom, onomatopoeia, hyperbole

Informational text:
Be able to read and analyze short informational articles/ texts. You can find examples on tweentribune.com and timeforkids.com

Writing:
Be able to write a proper 5 paragraph essay using a thesis sentence, supporting details, and conclusion. Use proper paragraphs with clear main ideas and topic sentences.
